The world works in strange ways... I know postal system has been going through some delivery rough patches with fewer staff and bad weather, but how incredibly odd is it that five letters I sent off during the first 2 weeks of January (to different places in Canada, US and Europe) would somehow arrive at every friend’s doorstep on the exact same day?*
Marrisa Falco aka Czarcastic creates adorable things in her practice, so I wanted to send her something fun and light-spirited. Cute stickers, a word search and some unique found objects all stuffed in an envelope decorated with our twitter avatars. La piece due resistance: a two color screen print on balsa wood from a very limited edition.
A few long time mail art friends Nick Ooysten and dynamic couple Joyelle and Peter Komierowski also got their regular dose of awesome among their bills this month. For the illustrating duo, Pete and Jo, a Canadiana inspired altered book page and a feather necklace. For Nick, a beaver covered envelope stuffed full of stickers.
My friend living in gorgeous Paris, France Laurindo Feliciano (Laurindof) just sent me a sweet tweet after getting home from a trip in Burgundy: “Arriving in Paris I found in my mailbox beautiful and incredible mail art made by my Canadian friend jessicagowling.” The beautiful and incredible items: an altered book page with mixed media about Paris and love, a magazine collage of a hybrid woman/rabbit and a screenprint of a bird.
I won’t lie, I am so excited for mail art responses that I feel like running to check the post box 3 times a day; I must remain calm….
*Editor’s note: The recent 4 envelopes I sent out and the 1 for @federales (that seems to be M.I.A.) can take a few more days to arrive… another mail art post would take a lot out of me, this blogging thing is hard work :)
