Only a few pages left to share of my 2012 Art House Co-op sketchbook and today I am SUPER excited because I am sharing another one of my favorites from both my lost 2011 sketchbook and this new one. Below is the original drawing Pair of Paws from my “Figuring You Out” sketchbook. After the above sketchbook went missing, I created a few homages using printmaking (one of which I have already talked about in the post filigree deer). There were two other images that later inspired prints; this pair of dog paws being one of them. This particular gocco print has been a hot seller on the etsy shop and at art markets:The original graphite drawn spread was of course an image that would be re-created in a new spread of my 2012 sketchbook “I remember you.” Choosing my second favorite domesticated animal as a subject was an easy thing to do, because really, who doesn’t love kitties and their cute little paws with claws? I was thrilled with how this tabby cat “portrait” turned out. I do love my graphite pencils! Drawing hundreds of little lines is something I find mesmerizing and relaxing. Staring at the finished drawing up close, my eyes dance and navigate a maze of beautiful textures.Just like the pair of dog paws that inspired the above creation, I wanted to use this newly finished image for a screenprint edition. Unfortunately the printing process is taking me longer than I would like, as I have already shot three separate screens – none of which have worked out to my liking yet. Hopefully if the textures can come through in my next attempt (or two) I will be able to hand print an edition of these beauties and get them listed in my shop by the end of next week.
