Today is bringing back wonderful memories of my killer summer from last year. I am in Blackstar Studio for the day, hanging out with old studio mates as a visiting artist.
Last season, I rented a studio space for 6 months in their gorgeous co-op studio and gallery and had the most wonderful time creating in my cute little studio space, with 4 other talented artists, amongst a beautiful gallery. Since my lease ended, I moved to 100 mile house and set up my own home studio, while the girls have moved to a brand new location downtown into a wicked new space that they have made their own.
For the day, I’ve set up my folding table just in front of Nat’s studio space. I’m working on some finishing touches on the intaglio plates I’ll be etching at Alberta Printmaker’s Society when I’m in Calgary tomorrow.
Natalie Ruby is straight across from me, lampworking to create glass beads, Caren Gibb is just to my left, she’s an amazing silversmith, and in one of the back studio spaces is Angelique Gillespie, an acrylic and mixed media painter.
I just love this gallery. Am so proud to call these talented ladies my friends, and am so happy that I’ve been showing my creations with Blackstar since they opened 2 years ago. Looking forward to some more in-studio days when I come back for my month long stay starting in early July. It is just such a fun and creative place to be.

This looks like such a wonderful time. I wish I had something like that with ladies in MTL. I am sure there is something I should really look into it, I think it will push me more creatively. I hope you are enjoying your first day of summer!
I love the extra energy from a shared workspace! Thanks for taking us along on your art journey!
Looks fantastic..maybe one day :-)
What a great way to spend a summer! Lovely that you can revisit it. Would love to have that opportunity to share a workspace with other artists.. would be fun to sit across the way from you Ms Gowling no doubt!
Awesome! Thank you for including us in your day!
thanks for commenting guys!! you’re right, it’s great to be in a co-op space so you can have other artists to encourage and inspire you. It was a great 6 months in their space, and yes I am always welcome back as a guest artist any time. The incorporation of the gallery is really genius; you get to view & purchase art while also having the opportunity to meet some of the artists & see work in progress. If you are EVER in invermere, BC, you must visit them :D
Wow, it’s art heaven in an artist’s dream! It must be great to be there, fueled and inspired by everyone’s creativity.
How inspiring-all those different expressions of art under one roof! And what a great way to form long-ties with other artists.
