The day is cold.
Upon a log
There sit a pair,
A bear and a dog.
I took a cold walk to the post box to find a package from a beloved studio mate from this past summer at Blackstar, Caren Gibb. It was filled with goodies including a postcard by Maria Holmer Dahlgren, a photo of a saw-whet owl, a lovely note and a stack of children’s book illustrations featuring a winter theme.
Fall……………….. The day is cool/ The day is fair/ Here is a dog/ Here is a bear/ They listen to the kingbird call/ And watch the summer/ Turn to fall
Back in autumn, when I moved away from the Kootenays to the South Cariboo, Caren was the first to send me something at my new address. Inside was a postcard from Shinzi Katoh, a little sarcastic note card about being too busy and a stack of fall book pages by the same mystery author/ illustrator. Something tells me that I won’t find out who created these gorgeous textural drawings until both spring and summer arrive…
In other mail art news, I received word that three twitter friends found mail art packages in their mail boxes today (which means its safe to post images of their goodies). Nothing better than making people, who are many miles away, smile and enjoy something I created and packaged especially for them.
On the right is what I recently sent to UnknownArtifact (CJ Pintacura): A screen-printed finger puppet, papers, prints, large artist stickers and a few found objects sealed in some of my favorite stationary by Sukie! He said the envelope was full of “really kewl art.”
MagneticCrow (Lisa Grabenstetter), after using Evan‘s FISTS OF STEEL to help open her frozen lock, she also found an envelope from me today. The small watercolor painting based on her twitter name got sent along with a manimals chainsaw fight print & other little goodies, all tucked in a kraft envelope and sealed with a talking moose.
Last but certainly not least is “the elk and six cardinals” gocco printed envelope that I sent all the way down to sunny Florida. It held a teal bird scrapbooking paper, stickers, a gocco print of paws and more. Who did I make it for? GaiaPrints (Ashley Gaia) who said the envelope in her mailbox was great and that she is already plotting her “revenge.” I sure hope it’s creative revenge…
